Aromatherapy is a branch of herbal medicine, an alternative medicine based on the use of essential oils, that is, volatile and strongly fragrant substances extracted from plants. These oils are generally extracted by means of steam distillation, and from the resulting steam, once cooled, it is possible to separate the essential oil from the water; in the case of citrus peel, cold pressing is also used. Among the plant parts from which essential oils can be obtained are: leaves, flowers, petals, bark, wood, seeds, pericarps and roots. Aromatherapy includes a wide range of applications: from topical use (massages, compresses, pure applications), to inhalation and oral use. The most common way to benefit from essential oils is to “inhale” them, by diffusing them into the environment, while another very common use of essential oils is linked to massages and yoga practices. In these cases the aromas act on the “chakras”, unblocking and reactivating our energy centers.

Aromatherapy is useful for restoring psychophysical balance and bringing back wellbeing. Finally, it is worth remembering that essential oils have important antiseptic, anti-inflammatory, antibiotic, antiemetic, antifungal, healing, antirheumatic and toning properties. At Spazio Il Sole it is possible to approach this discipline to relieve certain health issues and prevent the onset of others.
